Most couples start the search the same way: scrolling portfolios, comparing packages, reading reviews. All of that is useful — but none of it answers the one thing that really matters, which is whether this person's presence on your wedding day will feel like a gift or a distraction.
Look at full galleries, not just the highlights
Anyone can curate twenty perfect images. Ask to see a full wedding gallery, from start to finish. Consistency across hundreds of images — in light, in editing, in the range of emotions — is the real sign of talent.
Talk before you book
A quick conversation reveals more than any portfolio. Does she ask about your families, your nerves, your priorities? Or only about the shot list? You'll spend more time with your photographer on the wedding day than with almost anyone else there — chemistry matters.
- Ask how she handles low light, rain or a late schedule.
- Ask what happens if she can't shoot — is there a trusted backup?
- Ask how many weddings she photographs a year — capacity affects attention.
- Ask to see a second full gallery from a season or venue similar to yours.
